What is EmComm Durham?

We are a group of volunteers, who use our radios
and skills to support municipal and regional governments. We provide a backup communications capacity in the event
of an emergency. We are
also known as Durham ARES.
Durham
Region is located
directly east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It has a population of 760,000
in an area of 2,590 square kilometers (1,000 square miles). It is also the home of two of the
three commercial nuclear plants in Ontario.
We
have training exercises throughout the year to help us maintain a state
of readiness in the event of an emergency. This training is sometimes
part of formal exercises held by Emergency Measures and Social Services
in Durham. Radio operators also provide communication at local
community events such as races, walk-a-thons, or parades to help us
stay prepared.
You
do not have to be a licensed amateur radio operator to join EmComm.
We welcome anyone with a sincere interest in radio and public service.
If
you would like to become a member of our organization or participate in
one of our exercises as an observer to determine if this is something
that you would like to do, please contact one of the representatives on
the "Contact Us" page.
